In the learning platform (LTI)¶
Abstimmbar can be integrated into learning platforms via the LTI 1.3 standard — e.g. Moodle; Stud.IP as soon as LTI 1.3 is available there. The technical setup is done once by the administrators of your learning platform (see LMS integration (LTI 1.3)). After that, you can use Abstimmbar in your courses like an activity.
Adding it to a course¶
- In your course, add an “External tool” activity and choose the Abstimmbar connection set up by your administrators.
- “Select content” opens Abstimmbar's selection page: choose an existing question set from the course room, or enter a title to create a new one.
- Save the activity. You can create several activities — for example one per question set.
What happens when it's opened¶
For you as a teacher:
- You are signed in automatically — no separate login needed. Depending on the setup, this is the same account as when you sign in with your university username.
- The first time you open it from a course, Abstimmbar creates a room for the course (title = course title) and links it permanently to the course. Every teacher who opens Abstimmbar from the course becomes a member of this room — so you work on the same room as a team.
- You land directly in the selected question set (or in the course room) and can present from there. On your start page, the room is labelled “From LMS”.
For students:
- They are taken without an account and anonymously to the participant page of the course room — just as via QR code or room code. Abstimmbar learns nothing about them from the LMS that would be stored with their votes.
- There they see what you are currently presenting in this room or have started as a self-paced quiz. If nothing is running, the page says “The vote has not started yet.” — it starts by itself as soon as you begin.
- If the activity is linked to a self-check, students land directly in that self-check — provided you have published it.
- If students open the activity before a teacher has opened it once, they get a notice that the course is not linked yet.
Tip
Open a new activity once yourself before your students use it — that way the course room is created.
